I'm considering getting the conversion kit for my 2016 Lexus ES 300h but would like to understand something.
From information on the web site, I understand that I want to keep my factory audio unit in AUX mode to hear audio from my iPhone when connected to the conversion kit for Carplay.
But there's also a mention that I can switch my factory unit to FM to listen to the radio.
It sounds like that means I have to choose between hearing prompts from a navigation app on my phone, or hearing FM radio, but I'd like to do both at the same time. Am I missing something?
Thanks for clarifying,
Dan
Hi Dan,
As far as I know in my GS 350, they sent a separate small speaker to connect to the system(inside the dash board-planty room there). That speaker will give you the navigation instructions when in FM mode. I did not try it so far and have no idea how loud it is.
I watched the ES installation video on a whim (I would not be installing this myself) and that confirms that there's a small speaker for that purpose. The speaker apparently just sits inside the dash. I do wonder how loud it is, and if it's any better than just having Waze use the phone's speaker.
It sounds like the above is talking about having FM on the screen while CarPlay is in the background using the little speaker. What about the reverse?
In other words, are we able to listen to FM or Satellite Radio via the car sound system in the background while the CarPlay screen shows Google Maps navigation? Does Google Maps sound come out of the small speaker in that instance or does putting Google Maps on the screen effectively turn off FM/XM from the car radio?
