No. The Hamilton Conversion Kit supports all original 2014-2019 Toyota Highlander factory radios. The Conversion Kit is a complete replacement radio and screen. You do not need to take any special checkout action based on your factory equipment.
The Hamilton Conversion Kit has an optical port for aftermarket amplifiers. It also has 5-channel RCA support for non-optical port amplifiers.
The 2014-2019 Toyota Highlander Hamilton Conversion Kit has built-in support for FM and AM radio. It does not support XM satellite radio, however you can download the XM app for streaming XM channels via the 4G network. It does not have a CD player.

Your original dash warning lights and maintenance notifications on your dash will remain in place. The infotainment maintenance app is part of the original radio, however, and will not be available on the Hamilton Conversion Kit.

As most owners of not super old Toyotas, we've hated the infotainment system. Over the last few years, I've almost purchased replacement units from your usual suspects. The tradeoffs though were being markedly more expensive for a CarPlay/Android Auto compatible unit than anything Hamilton is making...and looking like shit. They either clearly look after-market or have a big iPad-like screen protruding from the dash.
So, I've been looking at Hamilton for a while, but didn't take the plunge until they had a full conversion unit. It was just an upgrade unit to the current OEM infotainment. For about $100 more, I can't tell you how easy of a choice it was to fully replace the head unit.
It came within a couple days. Was easy enough to install that my 11 and 9 year-old nephews could help out (see pic). Like a lot of you here, you've put other systems in other cars you have. This took a fraction of the time. Everything is labeled well (although there can be a number of unused cables so pay attention). I've had issues in the past with replacement units not working at all with the steering wheel controls without some programmatic assistance, but this was good straight away.
Looks great (see pic). Toyota's always had crappy, outdated infotainment systems, and this makes my car look like it's still on a lease so long as you don't look at how many miles are on the odometer.
I do have a couple small programming gripes. The default steering wheel skip is different than the OEM experience. Skip forward is the down button, and skip back is the up button (which didn't really work, but I don't use it super often). That's opposite of the normal Toyota experience. It's changeable in the Utility Menu (via the invert option). So it's easily fixable although you need a PIN to get into that which I don't care for.
I have also experienced a couple times, where the phone will connect -- via CarPlay -- but the screen will turn black. The connection works generally, but you can't use the screen for anything. The only way to get around this is to restart the car. Not awesome, but luckily most of my trips have been around town. Haven't been able to figure that out yet.
All-in-all...I'd 100% recommend getting a Hamilton upgrade unit!
For installation I would give it a 5+ it was explained perfectly. Unfortunately I will have to knock it down to a 4 for no manual sent for this unit which would be helpful for the setup, I did watch the video but it was more of how to pair and nothing about the buttons and settings themselves, also would like to see HD radio supported the radio sound is mid at best.
So far, the Toyota Conversion kit is working perfectly. I am an 84 yo female who installed the unit easily. The radio sounds great, and all other aspects of Car Play are working as expected. I am very happy with the system!
Installed on my daughter’s 2017 Highlander. Took a total of 30 minutes and looks and works fantastic. Feel much better about her going back to school with it.
Excellent kit to upgrade 2015 Highlander. Installation was straightforward no problems were encountered. Installation videos are great but I suggest the camera showing close up pictures of various steps to be even better.
Well worth the cost. Great upgrade to my Highlander. Took some time to learn how to navigate to what i need to but after a while it is so easy. Great display and touchscreen. The equalizer covers a lot of different frequencies. So fine tuning for your hearing is great. I dont have the JBL version in my car but the factory speakers will blow you away with this radio. I would buy another again if i purchase a car that they have the upgrade kit for. The old factory radio display was going out but now its a fresh new look.
Very impressed with this unit. Wiring it up wasn’t extremely difficult and connecting my phone with CarPlay was smooth! Ran the SIM card and extra USB adapters down through the glovebox just in case I decide to use them too.
Before I bought anything, I called a local reputable auto customizer to see if they could install a new display in my 2019 Highlander, they immediately said No, they do not install displays. Just before I hung up, I mentioned that I found a Hamilton unit that I thought would be perfect, he said "Oh yeah, you order it and we'll install a Hamilton unit but nothing else." I knew then that it had to be a good unit and it has not disappointed me one bit. I received it within 3 days and the shop loved how everything was just plug and go. He said they had only installed upgrade kits, never the conversion and it only took an hour compared to the 2 hours for the upgrade kits. You will lose the Compass/speed limit/road name in the Driver display since it is linked to the Toyota Entune Navagation system. For me it was a minor thing to give up in order to have an easy to use screen that I can see. Beautiful job Hamilton and thank you to customer support for explaining why the compass is missing in a way that made sense to me.
Purchased this for my 2018 Highlander and couldn’t be any happier. Looks amazing and ease of use is fantastic. Gives my car a whole new look and appearance. Installation was totally seamless. Have recommended this same unit to a few friends as well.
Everyone that gets in my car is so impressed with this screen. I use Android Auto. Calls are clear. Love having Google maps and voice prompts work great. Highly recommend this product. Mine is installed in a 2018 Highlander Hybrid LE. One person install. A trim tool is very helpful as well as electrical tape.

I recently installed a Hamilton Conversion kit in my 2019 Toyota Highlander Limited. The installation and set up was easy to do. I just followed the YouTube videos step by step that I had loaded on my iPad.
The display is much better than the OEM, the screen looks massive compared to the OEM. The JBL sound system even sounds better. The fact I can now have wireless CarPlay plus the large screen makes the purchase worth the price.
I was slightly disappointed in the fact my OEM Toyota compass nor my speed warning indicators no longer work on the dash display. My wife misses these two functions. I assume they no longer work because of the new Hamilton antenna installed. Everything was wired correctly through the provided "CAN".
Before I purchased, I did ask about the XM radio and also the factory cameras installed OEM. I was told the cameras would work but not the XM through the new head unit. Nothing was said about the other functions not working but then again, I never asked. However, all the pluses and minuses of using the Hamiliton system should be completely transparent to the buyer before a purchase.
Such an easy process to put this in the car and the sound is great and I love how the steering wheel controls still work.

This was an amazing upgrade. The process was super simple to replace. It only took a bit longer 2 hrs because I disconnected the battery and did it at night with a flashlight. It would have been very fast during the day with proper lighting. The YouTube Tutorial was easy to follow and everything works amazing.
I absolutely love my radio! It fits perfectly into the dash and I didn’t lose any steering wheel functions. The installation video was spectacular – I watched it three times before I installed the radio in my car I couldn’t be more pleased!
