2010-2013 Lexus GX Hamilton Premium Conversion Kit for CarPlay® and Android Auto™

Beware, you will lose the ability to have presets for AM, FM 1 and 2 as well as SAT 1, 2 and 3. I wish I had known this in advance, it's not mentioned on the website. So, if you listen to AM, FM or Sirius satellite, without the app, this may not be the kit for you. I guess I'm going to try and work with it since I don't listen to AM or FM and I'll use a SiriusXM app. You can manually tune the AM, FM and Sirius Satellite, but, kind of a pain. I'll use the Sirius app but I go to the desert a lot and there's no service out there and so I will have to manually tune the satellite stations. I recommend Hamilton note this on their frequently asked questions so people like me aren't blindsided. On the other hand, the unit is awesome and the display is so great. If you can live with no presets, go for it!

Video was very informative and helpful, quality of the product Top notch, cables assembly were the best I’ve ever used, only recommendation would be the UI of the Radio and able to save Stations

Easy install, functions flawlessly in my 2012 GX460. Apple car play connects every time. Factory backup camera works great.

I've had this in my 2012 GX460 for two weeks and it's everything I hoped it would be. Screen is a phenomenal upgrade and having more intuitive climate controls is a huge plus. One super minor gripe, it would be nice if the knob was a little more responsive and changed the temperature faster as the knob turns faster. Overall, I LOVE this unit and I only wish I'd upgraded during their Black Friday sale for an even better deal. If you're on the fence, you're going to love it.

NOTE: I used their recommended installer in Greenville, NC, and they did a great job. No way I was diving into that jungle of wires myself. I've seen the horror stories from people who jacked up their lights and cameras for months.

I've been using a Grom VLine for about five years. It's been okay to use when it works but fairly flaky, shutting down and dropping out.

I asked a few questions by email before ordering and appreciated the responses.

I appreciated the video instructions for installing the Hamilton kit. It came well packed, and the cables are very well labeled. The procedure matched the install nearly exactly. I had two of my cables retreat into the dash while installing, which made it a little more difficult, but I fished them out.

I put the shifter knob back on while installing, to avoid damaging anything.

It would be nice if there was a photo identifying the back of the "brain" and which cables go where. It's hard to take one with the cables showing, though!

I really didn't like pressing the "brain" back into place and just resting it there while I put the front of the unit in place. It feels janky and makes me a little worried about cables getting kinked or pressured.

Once in place the unit looks just amazing, and everything seems to work properly.

Wireless CarPlay works - but wired works better, and I might as well leave my phone in to charge.

The ZLink connection takes more time than it should to connect - especially when I'm wired. I haven't called them to ask about this yet. My niece tried to hook up her Android and we couldn't figure it out but my iPhone connects easily, it was probably confused by two at once.

I could not figure out how to set the clock's time zone so I had to go manual.

Five stars because I have high hopes that it'll make my GX feel modern for a few more years!

I installed this unit, everything worked then I watched a YouTube video with the installation of it's main competitor. I uninstalled the Hamilton, sent it back and purchased the competitor, I experienced nothing but problems after the install apart from the fact that support given was emails instead of phone calls which became very time consuming and frustrating. Suffice to say I uninstalled the competitor and repurchased the Hamilton. It's like having everything just like stock but a lot better where it matters and I'm happier for it.

Had a professional Toyota technician install it, he had a couple small quirks and foibles here and there, but a couple easy calls to Hamilton support got it done. Installed about a week now with zero issues, works great! Love it. Still getting used to all the new button locations and how it works, but so far so good. Love the huge screen, massive upgrade over factory on this GX model year. So happy to have my Android Auto!!!

Best upgrade you can do for your GX, works seemingly and wouldn’t know it’s not from the factory

It’s awesome. Seriously. If you’re on the fence, get off it and buy the thing. Is it everything you hope it’ll be? Absolutely. I love it. Install? Caveman simple. The YouTube tutorial deserves an award. The driving experience? Wildly improved. The screen sits higher, closer to your eye-line, so you’re not glancing down like a distracted raccoon. I was worried it’d be too big, maybe block some visibility. Nope. Perfect size. The screen’s gorgeous, sound’s crisp, and you get actual physical AC controls.

I had been using CarPlay through the factory navigation unit for a while using another company’s aftermarket box and while it was mostly functional, it was a bit clunky and buggy. When I saw that HMC had released a version of their premium conversion kit for the earlier models of GX 460 I knew I had to pick one up to get the flawless experience I wanted. Installation is pretty involved, but their instructions in the video are straightforward for someone like me with a good understanding of automotive electrical systems. Overall, the unit is fantastic and exceeds my expectations! The screen is crisp, bright, and responsive while also being able to dim to non-blinding light levels at night. My only issue was that my GX is equipped with the rare wide-view front and side monitor system which did not display correctly upon initial install, but going into the advanced settings and changing the rear view camera feed to LVDS fixed the issue and everything is working 100% correctly now. I’m very pleased with the unit and how it brings my GX into the modern era and strongly recommend it to anyone looking for a high quality upgrade.

First time buying from Hamilton and from start to finish it has been an amazing experience. I don’t really believe in five stars but this is an exception. Originally I purchased the same unit from an international site. At first glance the item looks and quality is the same but it’s Hamilton hardware and software that stands apart. That unit was promptly returned and the Hamilton is here to stay. I even called there helpline for a quick question on a Saturday and someone answered.
