Can I use FM, XM, or AM radio while CarPlay/Android Auto is showing on the screen? Are all factory audio channels still available?
You can use your factory radio channels and have CarPlay/Android Auto showing on your screen with the Hamilton Upgrade Kits with one important limitation: Please note that the factory radio channels are sealed channels. This means Siri cannot talk through these channels.
When you are streaming audio via CarPlay (e.g. Spotify, Apple Music, Sirius App, etc.), your music and Siri/Navigation will come out of your vehicle speakers mixed together.
However, while using the sealed factory radio channels, you will only be able to hear radio audio. System audio (Siri, navigation sounds, phone calls) cannot be mixed into the factory radio channels.
Note: You will not be able to use the AUX port for any external media devices liked DACs or MP3 players. The Hamilton Upgrade Kit consumes this audio input for CarPlay/Android Auto.
Are there any important compatibility notes?
This device supports all models of the 2010-2013 Lexus GX. Some of the original Lexus GX screens had a blue square wire plugged into the back. Others did not. Typically the higher trim levels had this blue square wire called LVDS.
Regardless of whether you have a factory blue LVDS wire plugged into your original screen, you need to connect the Hamilton male blue LVDS wire into your original screen after installing the Hamilton Upgrade Kit. If you had the factory blue square LVDS wire plugged into your original screen from the start, you will plug that original wire into the provided Hamilton female blue LVDS socket (it accepts that factory male wire). Our video shows this fully.
If you have original LVDS wire in the back of your factory screen, you will set DIP 1,4,6,7 ON
If you did NOT have original LVDS wire in the back of your factory screen, you will set DIP 1,6,7 ON (No LVDS)
Hamilton fulfillment will contact you prior to shipping your device to confirm this, and we will set your device appropriately so you do not need to change the DIP switches. You can simply confirm what we have set.
We will confirm this by checking for a picture of your reverse camera. No action is needed from you. Hamilton fulfillment will send you an email. If your reverse camera has no guidelines, you did not have LVDS. If you do have guidelines, your car does have that factory blue LVDS wire.
The same Hamilton Upgrade Kit supports both versions of Lexus GX. The only change is the DIP switches.
