The Pioneer factory radio is the most common (90% of Toyota Camrys). In the below image you will see a small number on your factory radio. If this number begins with "P" you have a Pioneer, otherwise you have a Fujitsu.
Your factory Camry radio (whether Fujitsu or Pioneer) must have a factory "Apps" button on the front panel of the unit. The radios without the "Apps" button will not be compatible with the Hamilton Upgrade Kit.
Yes, at any time, you can long-hold the voice speech button to switch from the Hamilton OS (CarPlay/Android Auto) back to the factory Toyota OS. Here you can use your factory XM, FM, and AM radio channels.
You can use your factory radio channels and have CarPlay/Android Auto showing on your screen with the Hamilton Upgrade Kits with one important limitation: Please note that the factory radio channels are sealed channels. This means Siri cannot talk through these channels.
When you are streaming audio via CarPlay (e.g. Spotify, Apple Music, Sirius App, etc.), your music and Siri/Navigation will come out of your vehicle speakers mixed together.
However, while using the sealed factory radio channels, you will only be able to hear radio audio. System audio (Siri, navigation sounds, phone calls) cannot be mixed into the factory radio channels.
Note: You will not be able to use the AUX port for any external media devices liked DACs or MP3 players. The Hamilton Upgrade Kit consumes this audio input for CarPlay/Android Auto.
Playing audio via the factory USB port is not supported while using CarPlay/Android Auto. If you prefer USB, please use wired CarPlay/Android Auto.
Everything works perfectly! The installation was much easier than I expected. My biggest advice is to pay close attention to every detail in the installation video and follow each step exactly for your specific car. If you do that, the installation is very straightforward.
The backup camera works flawlessly, voice control is excellent, phone calls are clear, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto functions just like it should. Honestly, it feels like magic having all these modern features in a 2015–2017 Camry.
Of course, the factory LCD is from about 10 years ago, so don’t expect the same display quality as a brand-new vehicle. That’s not the kit’s fault. Everything still looks great and works perfectly. There is a slight bit of lag here and there, but that’s completely normal and doesn’t affect daily use.
The only small issue I’ve noticed is that Apple CarPlay occasionally disconnects for a minute or two before reconnecting automatically. It has only happened a few times, so I’m not sure what causes it.
Other than that, I’m extremely happy with this upgrade. It completely modernized my car, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone with a 2015–2017 Toyota Camry
Upgrade Kit for 2016 Toyota Camry XLE Hybrid easily allows to use Apple Car Play. Installation is a process which their videos navigate you through the steps easily. This was installed in my wife’s car and she is technology challenged. It is a learning process that I hope she overcomes, if not I will set the vehicle back to stock. I wish they had a conversion kit as that probably would work better for this setup. Otherwise, satisfied with the equipment.
Installation video was very helpful and made the installation a smooth process. The product works great! We’ve been enjoying it on our five day trip across the US and it’s worked very smoothly.
Fitted the unit myself, probably took a few hours. Didn't require any specialized tools as such. Philips head screwdriver, 10mm socket. A bunch of microfiber towels to prevent scratches to the trim. Aside from a mistake on my part (mistook a wire harness for something that wasn't ever plugged in - turned out to be the A/C controls 😂) I'm very pleased with it.
The install is definitely finicky when it comes to installing the whole thing (especially with the XM unit still attached), and making sure everything fits correctly and the trim is snug. I took my time, had a few missteps and misaligned trim pieces, but got it done in the end with everything intact.
It's been in the car for a couple of weeks, and wireless Android Auto has worked flawlessly. I thought having a relatively small screen would be a negative, but I honestly haven't noticed the lack of real estate in that regard. It's responsive, and since it uses the matte factory screen, it has decent anti-glare properties. Everything looks stock, it retains the original Sirius XM module and CD player (if those are useful to you) - you wouldn't think there was anything aftermarket fitted in the car. It boots up consistently into AA within 20 seconds of turning the car on. Reverse camera works perfectly and switches from and back to AA seamlessly.
My minor gripes:
The install instructions are currently only via a video on YouTube, which may or may not float your boat. Hamilton provide a QR code that links to all the pdf manuals and documentation on the website, but weirdly there's actually no mention of the Camry Upgrade Kit at all, so you're kind of left to yourself in that regard. You have be proactive and find the install videos on their YouTube channel. I called them up to double check, told them that there was no mention of the Camry instructions on the website, but they haven't rectified that at the time of writing. I suppose they sell far more units for later model cars, likely this isn't a priority.
It would be ideal if Hamilton could somehow relay the 'what's playing' on Spotify/etc to the small info screen on the dash, but again, I imagine that's not a priority, or indeed within their abilities?
Lastly, and this is niche, the clock is now relegated to the relatively small, bottom right portion of the head unit screen. It's bizarre that Toyota doesn't have the option to display a clock on the info screen between the dials on the dash, front and center. More often than I'd expect, I find myself looking for the time, and the bottom right of the head unit screen isn't the best place for it. Not a Hamilton problem, but thought I'd mention it.
Not cheap at ~$470 (with a $35 off intro offer via the website) but nevertheless, happy with my purchase.
I have a degree in Electrical Engineering Technology and I installed my first car stereo in 1984. It was a Pioneer under the dash cassette player in a 1978 Plymouth Arrow. I have installed systems in most of my cars and a lot of friends and family’s cars since. I have a 2015 Toyota Camry SXE V6 that I have kept stock since new. The aftermarket kits just didn’t look right to me. When I found the Hamilton Upgrade Kit, I ordered it the same day. Being able to keep the stock look of my dash, but add CarPlay functionality was exactly what I’ve been looking for. The instructions were easy to follow and the installation was straight forward. The kit works as promised, my stock system retained all functionality, but now has wireless CarPlay. I had a question during my install and was able to quickly get the answer by calling their customer service number.

I can’t believe my husband let me take apart his dash, but I did so, and he is very pleased with the outcome! The videos from Hamilton were useful. Though there were a few steps missing, I was able to figure it out with simple logic. Doing this project at home saved me a few hundred in labor and gave me the satisfaction of a skill I have not learned before.

I ordered the conversion kit for my 2015 Camry and accidentally got the wrong version. They got back to me right away and sent me the right version and it installed as it should. It is nice being able to use the factory controls with the Apple CarPlay functionality.
