Firmware Update Process and CarPlay UI State Reversion

  • @Dave (or any of the Hamilton team):

Can you clarify the firmware update path for the CarPlay module? Are updates applied via USB (e.g., requiring the wired CarPlay adapter and a USB stick), or are firmware updates delivered through the iPhone over the CarPlay interface?

After installing the upgrade kit yesterday, I encountered an issue where, following a vehicle power cycle, the CarPlay UI reverted to the default icon layout. A subsequent power cycle restored the saved layout. This appears state-related and may indicate a firmware issue.

I also noticed that in the Hamilton app, under Settings > System, there is an option for Firmware Update, which leads to both System Update and MCU Upgrade. Clicking on either currently states “no GEMINI_PACK.BIN here!” I’m wondering where that file is obtained from and how it is loaded into the system.

Finally, how is forward compatibility with future iOS/CarPlay versions handled? Specifically, do you release firmware updates to maintain compatibility, how are users notified, and what is the update/install process?
